Athletes (left to right and top to bottom): Wiebe, Ross, Hook, Fulcomer, Beaver, Blanton, and Joiner Rockford Christian traveled to Yorkville on Friday, April 12 for the Matt Wulf Invitational. The meet conditions were cold and blustery, but the competition produced some hot times for RCSTF athletes. Oswego East (enrollment 2616) won the 8 team invite with 137 points followed by Thorton Fractional South (enrollment 1880) 104 points, Yorkville (enrollment 1781) 103 points, and Rockford Christian (enrollment 379) 102.5 points. The RC squad won 5 events and set 11 personal bests in the unfavorable weather.   Co-captain Elijah Nitz (Sr.) won both the shot and disc competitions with season bests of 51’ 10” and 151’ 8” respectively. Both marks place him in top ten in the state for 2A competition ( per athletic.net as of 4/13 ).   RC hurdlers placed 1-2 in the 110m race into a stiff head wind. Co-Captain Noah Fulcomer (Sr.) ran 15.88 and pulled his training partner Collin Hook (So.) to a lifetime best of 16.11. Hook’s efforts move him to RCSTF #3 all time in the event.   The 4x200m quartet of Jace Joiner (Sr.), co-captain Riley Wells (Sr.) , Connor Cunningham (Sr.), and co-captain Skyler Blanton (Sr.) dominated the field. Their combined splits totaled to 1:32.45. The mark is currently the fifth fastest in the 2A division. The squad’s time also sits at #6 within team history.  The achievement is made all the more significant because Wells now holds top ten program status in all four relays, having split 10.5 in the 4x100m relay early in the meet. The only other RC athlete to hold that distinction is Josiah Vogel (2018).   Finally, the 4x400m relay of Joiner, Blanton, Nicolas Capriola (Sr.), and Wells won in 3:33.79 to cap off the meet.   Other noteworthy performances included the following: Brent Brunner (Sr.) ran 4:30.03 in the 1600m; Josh Honkamp (Sr.) and Ben Capriola (Fr.) pushed each to personal bests in the 800m; sophomore sprinters Noah Ross and Gage Wiebe had breakout 100m and 200m races, and D’ Artagnon Beaver (So.) ran his first 3200m of the season just four seconds off his lifetime best.   Complete results and be found at https://www.athletic.net/TrackAndField/meet/352074/teamscores ...
