4x400m Seniors: Capriola, Fulcomer, Volk and Joiner

Rockford Christian boys competed in the 14th University High Indoor at Horton Field House at Illinois State University on Saturday, March 2. The non-scored mega-meet was comprised of nearly 70 teams and 48 schools.  The Royal Lions made the most of the 11 hour death march with 27 personal records, 19 all time program performances, 2 school records, 4 Illinois 2A top ten efforts, and 1 event victory.

Co-captain Elijah Nitz (Sr.) was responsible for the solitary event win in the shot put. Nitz heaved a lifetime best of 49’ 10” a mark that currently ranks him #5 in the 2A classification (per athletic.net as of 2:00 p.m. on 3/3/19). The Royal Lion senior now holds the second best shot put in program history.

After a disappointing preliminary in the 60m hurdles, Co-captain Noah Fulcomer (Sr.) shattered his own school record clocking 8.72 and finished 2nd overall all. Fulcomer commented that it was a flawless race. Inspired by his teammate’s performance, Collin Hook (So.) crushed his personal best by half a second running 9.19. His new time moved him to RCSTF #4 all-time. Peter Beaves-Lewis (Sr.) also ran a PR in the prelims.

Super sophomore Davis Hood continued his incredible indoor campaign with his third consecutive improvement in the 60m dash. The 7.37 clocking bumped 8-time all-state and leadoff specialist Jacob Kennay (2018) out of the frosh-soph school record.

In the 400m dash three Royal Lion freshman crossed the finish line with three personal bests. Jonathan Thomas, Zander Ciochetti, and Adison Elliot broke into the RC frosh-soph top ten listing with their marks of 59.04, 1:01.47, and 1:02.07 respectively.

The 4x400m relay closed out the marathon meet with a third place finish. Fulcomer, Andy Volk (Sr.), Jace Joiner (Sr.), and Nicolas Capriola (Sr.) all ran personal bests to combine for a time of 3:39.00. Joiner’s efforts were especially inspiring, and his split of 54.4 is a big indoor best. Volk’s split of 53.3 is the tenth fastest ever run indoors by a Royal Lion. The overall team mark rates them #9 in program in history.

Other noteworthy efforts came from co-captain Riley Wells (Sr.) and Brent Brunner (Sr.) in the 1600m. They finished in 4:36.94 and 4:37.12 in third and fourth place out of  87 entrants. The marks are currently the fourth and fifth fastest times posted in 2A thus far.  Co-Captain Skyler Blanton (Sr.) returned to racing in fine fashion after rehabbing an injury for two weeks. Blanton ran a PR of 24.09 – good enough for RCSTF #4 all-time.
