Game Date
Mar 9, 2019

RCSTF Captain's Chains Athletes: David Hood, JT Emenecker, Ben Capriola, and Jonathan Thomas

Rockford Christian (ranked #6 2A MileSplit) divided the squad between two venues this weekend. The 800m runners traveled to Batavia to compete in Distance Madness on Friday night. The sprints, jumps, and throwers competed in Byron Indoor Preview on Saturday afternoon. The program collectively broke 1 school record, set 17 personal bests, produced 9 all-time program indoor top ten marks, won 5 events, and amassed 4 2A top ten performances.

Co-captain Riley Wells (Sr.)kicked off” the weekend at Batavia Distance Madness winning the 800m race against a stacked field. Wells ran 1:58.64 and unleashed his trademark mad finish in the final 50 meters to run the second fastest 800m open in Illinois (according to as of 3/10/19). In the following heat, Brent Brunner (Sr.) ran a personal best of 2:03.84. His own mark ranks him #6 in program history and #7 in 2A. D’ Artagnon Beaver (So.) -- fresh off the basketball court -- ran a 1600m lifetime best of 4:48.43 to close out the madness for Rockford Christian on Friday night. It is the first indoor effort to place Beaver in the RCSTF varsity top ten lists.

On Saturday afternoon at the Byron Preview, RCSTF seniors dominated the meet. Co-captain Elijah Nitz (Sr.) had a huge day winning the shot with a lifetime best 50’ 6.25” rotational put. Nitz improved his 2A ranking to #6 indoors. Malachi White (Sr.) continued to his impressive indoor jumping campaign winning the triple jump with a 40’ 1.75” leap. Co-captain Noah Fulcomer (Sr.) won the 55m hurdles in 8.10 - the converted time to 60m exactly equals his 8.72 he ran last weekend.

The two additional victories came from both sprint relays. The quartet of Davis Hood (So.), co-captain Skyler Blanton (Sr.), Kody Page (Sr.) and Andy Volk (Sr.) dominated the 4x200m field on the slick Byron surface. Their collective time of 1:37.57 is the fourth fastest run in program history (all three faster times have been set at Illinois Top Times). The mark is made all the most impressive considering the sprinters were sans spikes.

The 4x400m relay closed out the weekend in the same manner as Wells started - with an inspiring kick for the win. Jace Joiner (Sr.), Blanton, Collin Hook (Sr.) and Jonathan Thomas (Fr.) combined for a 3:43.40 victory. The freshman revealed held off a hard charging Hampshire anchor and split 55.8.

Other noteworthy personal bests came from the following Royal Lions: Noah Ross (So.) ran 25.35 in the 200m, Ben Capriola (Fr.) and Ethan Walsh (Fr.) ran 5:09.78 and 5:21.43 in the 1600m, David Hood (So.) took 3rd in the 55m 6.83 (his fourth consecutive personal best of the season), Adam Santana (Fr.) went 35' 5" in his first ever triple jump, and Tyler Hermansen (So.) also placed 3rd in the pole vault with 9’ 0” jump.
