2019 Duck Pond Team Champions

Fontana, Wisconsin – The Royal Lions competed at the 7th Duck Pond Invitational hosted by Big Foot High School on Tuesday, September 24, against a field of 16 schools and 190 runners. This was the very first time in program history that RC has traveled to Wisconsin for a cross country meet. The 5,000m figure-eight configured course at Duck Pond Recreational Area was saturated from the weekend rain.  However, course conditions seemed to favor the Royal Lions as they won the title team with 48 points. In the process they also upended WIAA D3 #10 ranked Poynette (92 points). The RC quad placed an impressive five runners in the top 15 for medal honors. Richard Schaefer of Shoreland Lutheran won the individual race in 17:36.

The five RCXC varsity medalists were as follows:  D' Artagnon Beaver (Jr.) 18:11, Stephen Thomas (Jr.) 18:33, Carter Fryer (Sr.) 18:45, Benjamin Capriola (So.) 18:49, and Ethan Walsh (So) 18:53. They finished 5-7-10-12-14, respectively. The 1-5 man split was just 42 seconds – the best of the season thus far.

Adison Elliott (So.) and Josiah Emenecker (Sr.) closed out the varsity pack with times of 19:11 and 19:14 and finished in 20th and 21st place. Elliott’s 5k time converts to a 3 mile best. Both RCXC pushers finished in front of all other teams' scoring five.

In the simultaneously run junior varsity race it was Tony Chen (So.) who took the top medal finish out of the 95 man fiel. It is the first race Chen has ever won and his 19:33 time converts to a 3 mile personal best. Aidan Sosnowski (Fr.) was 5th in 20:55.
